Eunice Yu
Therapeutic Art Facilitator, Art Therapist, Artist
Eunice introduces to clients the therapeutic benefit of art-making. She has led therapeutic and expressive art sessions for staff development in a non-profit organization, pastors and leaders in the church setting, classroom teachers and high school students in an after school program.
Eunice’s training and career as an art therapist informs her approach to working with clients; for example, she prioritizes providing a non-judgmental and calm space for each workshop. She methodically prepares art materials and directives suited for the group’s goal.
She believes that the most hopeful quality of the services she prepares is that nearly everyone is able to create art that is refreshingly expressive and insightful. Expressing oneself visually through art has significant benefits including relieving stress, decreasing anxious thoughts, clarifying emotions and managing negative feelings.
Additional background:
In her clinical work, Eunice provides art therapy groups to influence positive change in the emotional and social wellbeing of adults coping with mental health challenges at an inpatient psychiatric facility.
Eunice grew up in Pennsylvania where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography and Art Education at Temple University’s Tyler School of Art. She then ventured to Nyack, NY to teach photography and mixed media to students in grades K-12. In 2017, Eunice received a Masters of Science in Art Therapy and Counseling. That summer, she moved to South Korea for a year for a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship. She developed a grant funded after-school Expressive Art Workshop for the high school students in her school. The rich experience of planning and offering weekly workshops paved a road for Eunice’s interest in introducing art-making as a form of intentional and meaningful self-care.
As for her artist practice, Eunice creates photographic art and portraits, watercolor painting and mixed media collage. Her art reflects an interest in impermanence, the ever-changing experiences of life and the blessings within brokenness.
